Shepherds Theological Seminary Accredited by Nation’s Top Accreditation Body

Cary, NC, June 22, 2016 – The Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), the premier theological accreditation body, has granted accreditation to Shepherds Theological Seminary (STS), which joins more than 270 graduate schools serving over 75,000 students, including: Duke University, Harvard University, Princeton Seminary, Dallas Theological Seminary, and the five main Southern Baptist Seminaries. The ATS Board of Commissioners granted STS the maximum length initial accreditation, which is seven year period, effective June 7, 2016.

STS completed the accreditation process in about two-and-a-half years as a “fast-track” institution, compared with the more typical six-year period. STS President Dr. Stephen Davey attributed this success to the seminary being “blessed with both remarkable administrative staff and remarkable faculty. The entire team put their heart, head, and hands into this endeavor so that our students would have access to the highest level of accreditation in their preparation for careers in church ministry, non-profit work or academia.”

In its accreditation approval letter to STS, the ATS Board of Commissioners singled out the seminary’s commitment to students calling “the intensive and intentional care and support provided to students by faculty and staff in ways that are deeply appreciated, readily offered, and wonderfully indicative of the seminary’s shepherd model and motif” a “distinctive strength,” and offering high praise for its “small but growing faculty who are deeply experienced and highly credentialed.”
