Community Class Offered on Edwards and Whitefield this June

Register for a summer class covering the lives of Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield

Dates: June 3 – 8, 2019

Monday – Friday (6:00pm – 10:00pm)

Saturday (8:00am – 12:00 noon)

This course is open to Shepherds Theological Seminary degree-seeking students as an elective, and is also open to members of the community who may want to learn about the remarkable lives of these great American theologians.

STS Adjunct Professor, Dr. Mark J. Larson will cover the lives and theology of Jonathan Edwards (the most renowned theologian of the eighteenth century) and George Whitefield (possibly the greatest evangelist who ever lived and the most famous man in America prior to the Revolutionary War). Our consideration takes place against the backdrop of the incredible spiritual revival of the Great Awakening and the anti-Christian philosophical ideas that were connected with the Enlightenment and Deism (reflected in figures such as Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson). Our engagement with the teaching and preaching of Edwards and Whitefield on the Holy Spirit and the wonder of what God does in salvation can be a life-changing experience bringing us to a deeper love for the Lord and a renewed desire to live for his honor and glory.
