Graduation 2017 Information

2017 COMMENCEMENT Sunday, May 21, 2017 6:00pm

Please join us for the STS Graduation Sunday, May 21st, at 6:00pm in the Student Chapel. The Commencement Address will be delivered by Dr. Larry Pettegrew, Provost and Dean of Shepherds Theological Seminary. A reception will follow the commencement service in the Gym/Auditorium. Nursery services will be provided for children ages five and under at Colonial. Reservations for childcare must be made through the STS office. Please contact June Volstad ( by noon on Monday, May 15th if you need childcare.



Commencement Week Schedule:

Commencement Rehearsal – Saturday, May 20th at 3:00pm

This will be a time to meet with faculty and fellow graduates in an informal setting. The rehearsal will take place in the Chapel and is required for all graduates and faculty. (Childcare is not available for the rehearsal.)

Commencement Ceremony – Sunday, May 21st at 6:00pm

Commencement will begin promptly at 6:00pm. Faculty and students should arrive at 5:00pm for group pictures in their full regalia. Doors will open at 5:00pm, and there will be reserved seating for families of graduates. All are welcome to attend this exciting milestone in the lives of the graduates. Following the ceremony, there will be a reception in the Gym/Auditorium in honor of the graduates.

Detailed Schedule:


3:00 Rehearsal in the Chapel – a complete walk-through with all graduates and faculty.

Sunday, May 21st – COMMENCEMENT

(Graduates and faculty should wear full regalia – shirt and tie under for men, dress or skirt/blouse for women)

5:00 Meet in the hallway by the STS courtyard entrance dressed in regalia for group pictures

5:30-5:45 Meet in the Parlor to receive programs, final instructions, and line up for processional.

5:45-6:00 Walk over to the Chapel to prepare for processional.

6:00 Commencement Service in the Chapel (see note below regarding childcare) followed by a
reception in the Gym/Auditorium

Frequently Asked Questions

Who am I allowed to bring to the rehearsal?

You are welcome to bring your spouse and children. If you are not married, you may bring your immediate family.

Is childcare provided?

There will not be childcare for the rehearsal. However, for the Commencement Ceremony, childcare will be provided for ages 5 and under in the nursery at Colonial. Reservation are required for childcare. Please contact June Volstad ( in the seminary office if you need childcare.

***All children must be picked up from childcare following the ceremony, before attending the reception.

Do I need tickets for the ceremony?

No, all are welcome to attend. There will be sections reserved for families of graduates, but no ticket is required for either the ceremony or the reception. Note: the ceremony will be audio-streamed at

Where do I pick up my regalia?

The regalia is available for pick up in the seminary office. An email will be sent to graduates when the regalia arrive.
