STS 2020 Alumni Awards

Shepherds has the privilege of presenting two alumni awards each year that commemorate different STS graduates who are living out their theology and representing Christ in their families, churches, and communities. These awards are the Impact Award for Service and the Servant Leader Award, respectively. Descriptions of each award, along with brief bios of the 2020 recipients of the awards, are outlined below.

Impact Award for Service
The Impact Award for Service is given once a year to an alum who has faithfully sought to impact the world for Christ by 1) having an effect upon those touched, 2) influencing others strongly for Christ, and 3) promoting biblical values on the culture to which they minister. This year’s alum is Aundria Hyer.

Aundria has a long history with STS, having begun her studies in 2007 and earning an MA in 2019, working under the academic mentorship of Dr. Pettegrew. She went into the Army reserves right out of high school, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 from Mars Hill College, then a Master of Business Administration in 1993 from Western Carolina University. She currently serves on the board at Hannah’s Hand Missions.

Now as a retiree, she is spending her time doing yard work, relieving her husband Tim of that duty. They both enjoy riding their motorcyles through the mountains. Aundria is currently discipling a lady one-on-one, showing her commitment to her biblical faith. She is the ultimate example of “getting-it-done,” both in her academic and professional history as well as in her current work, as she does the lion’s share of the evaluation data for Shepherds’ Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
