25 Oct STS 2021 Alumni Awards
Shepherds has the privilege of presenting two alumni awards each year that commemorate different STS graduates who are living out their theology and representing Christ in their families, churches, and communities. These awards are the Impact Award for Service and the Servant Leader Award, respectively. Descriptions of each award, along with brief bios of the 2021 recipients of the awards, are outlined below.
Servant Leader Award
The Servant Leader Award is annually presented to an alumnus who exemplifies the ideals of a servant leader, sacrificially giving of both time and effort to invest God’s Word in the lives of others and to shepherd others toward a closer walk with Christ. This year’s alum is Sam Martin.
Sam served as Assistant Pastor at Laramie Valley Chapel (Laramie, WY) with his father for several years before God laid church planting with a trade on his heart.
He attended a barber school in Salt Lake City, UT, and opened a barbershop in Laramie.
In 2017, Sam moved his wife Erin and four children to St. George, UT, to open another barbershop. Through the means of that trade, he lead a mission team of four other men and their families to join them in the area and plant Red Mesa Fellowship, where each of the men serve as pastors of the church.
They continue their involvement in church planting and are raising up a team to plant a second church in St. George.
