Daniel Hilgendorf

Daniel Hilgendorf — Class of 2028

Where and how did you grow up?

I grew up in a Christian home with one older brother as a part of a missionary family in South Carolina, USA. My parents were involved in serving missionaries around the world through JAARS, a technical support center for Wycliffe Bible Translators. When I was around six years old, I asked Jesus to be my Savior, and since then, I have been learning to grow in my relationship with Him.

What life circumstances or situations did God use to create in you a desire for pastoral ministry?

From a young age, I had a desire to serve God with my life, although I wasn’t sure what that might involve. God brought several people into my life who encouraged me in the pursuit of ministry. As I had opportunities to serve in the church or lead devotionals, I developed a growing burden to pursue pastoral ministry full-time. I had the opportunity to attend Appalachian Bible College, preparing to serve the Lord, and I became more involved in mission outreach during that time.

How do you anticipate seminary helping you specifically to prepare for ministry?

I want to be as prepared as possible for whatever ministry the Lord has in store for me in the future. Specifically, I am looking forward to solidifying my own doctrinal positions and having a greater understanding of God’s Word. I am also excited about the friends and life-long relationships that I will be able to build as I walk through this program with others who desire to serve the Lord.

What kind of ministry, people group, or geographical area are you passionate about or planning to be involved in after graduating and why?

I desire to serve the Lord in church planting overseas, if He leads me in that direction. I have had the opportunity to participate in several mission trips to South America, and God has given me a burden to help reach those who have limited exposure to the Gospel.
