David Bigelow — Class of 2027
Married to Hannah Bigelow

Where and how did you grow up?

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT as the youngest of four boys to Christian parents. Through high school and college I used the name “Christian” as a shield and sword to serve my own desires. By God’s grace I have come to know Him personally since 2018.

What life circumstances or situations did God use to create in you a desire for pastoral ministry?

God placed in me a burning desire to know Him more and more, but the closer I got to God the more I was compelled to share what He was teaching me. Teaching and discipleship became pursuits which I both desired and was encouraged in by others. This outflow from the Word is a consistent reality, propelling me into pastoral labors whether I am called a pastor or not. Pastoral ministry as a title simply strengthens what it seems God is already having me do.

How do you anticipate seminary helping you specifically to prepare for ministry?

Whether in my personal time with the Lord or in ministry the Lord has placed me in, two years of seminary has already built a foundation which enriches my understanding of God’s Word. As a result, seminary has grown my own personal relationship with the Lord and strengthened my ability to appropriately use God’s Word in encouragement, witnessing, and preaching. This growth has been necessary for faithful ministry labor, and I am sure the next years will further this development as I seek to be able to equip other believers.

What kind of ministry, people group, or geographical area are you passionate about or planning to be involved in after graduating and why?

I am passionate about making the Bible accessible to believers and unbelievers, so that saints will be equipped for ministry and disciples will be made (Eph 4:12, Matt 28:19-20).  My desire to know and follow God better outflows into ministry at large, so my passion is more directed to where the Lord would use a didactically minded shepherd to build and be built up by a local church (Eph 4:11). Utah is in need of more gospel ministry, and yet much of our nation has few laborers. My prayer is that only one door opens, and a lot stay shut.
