David Jones — Class of 2028
Married to Cheneta Renee Jones;
Three children: Sydnei, Myles, Kyan

Where and how did you grow up?

I grew up in Rocky Mount, NC. I am the youngest of 8 children. My mother divorced after the first 7 children as her husband was physically and emotionally abusive. She raised me as a single parent as my father did not want to marry or have children. My mother was a believer in Christ and shared the gospel with me at an early age. I have always believed in Jesus Christ, but I did not always walk out the commandments or teachings of a Christian.

What life circumstances or situations did God use to create in you a desire for pastoral ministry?

Ever since I started reading my Bible regularly over the past 25 years, I have felt the urge to share what I was learning. I did not think of it as wanting to pastor, but more of wanting to teach. After seeing the decline in proper teaching in the pulpit throughout the country and beyond, I felt the need to leave corporate America and answer the call to serve the body of Christ as best I can. I do not think I sought after pastoral ministry, it simply appears to be seeking me. I just want to answer the call faithfully.

How do you anticipate seminary helping you specifically to prepare for ministry?

Seminary will help me properly and thoroughly understand God’s word much better than I do now. I would like to think that I have some understanding of Scripture, however, I know that I’m still lacking; especially after taking the entrance exams. Seminary will give me a deeper and more solid foundation of God’s word which will prepare to communicate the message clearly and faithfully.

What kind of ministry, people group, or geographical area are you passionate about or planning to be involved in after graduating and why?

I am open to share the gospel with any and all people groups. I’ve thought about preaching, missions, evangelism, church planting, biblical counseling, prison ministry, elderly ministry, sports ministry and beyond. I want God to use my gifts for His glory where He see fits.
