Jonathan Clayton — Class of 2028

Where and how did you grow up?

I grew up in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, with my dad serving as a Southern Baptist pastor at churches in Oklahoma and Arizona. I am an only child, and was born after my parents had been married for nearly fourteen years.

What life circumstances or situations did God use to create in you a desire for pastoral ministry?

God used circumstances when I was looking to go to college, wherein I did not get into any college until I had accepted my call to pastoral ministry. Then, during college, He refined my call to lead me to seminary.

How do you anticipate seminary helping you specifically to prepare for ministry?

Seminary will help me specifically prepare for ministry by giving me the knowledge, attitude, and skills necessary to preach God’s Word, counsel people, shepherd a congregation, and love the church.

What kind of ministry, people group, or geographical area are you passionate about or planning to be involved in after graduating and why?

I have previously felt a passion for church planting in New York City, especially during college, but now I am open to many areas and avenues of ministry.
