JOSE ALONSO
Assistant professor of global ministry
and practical theology
José serves as the Pastor of Spanish Ministries at The Shepherd’s Church. Originally from Colombia, South America, he has dedicated 26 years to church planting across seven Latin American countries. José holds degrees from the Moody Bible Institute, Baptist Bible College (MA), Baptist Bible Seminary (MDiv), and has earned a Doctorate in Expository Preaching from The Master’s Seminary. He and his wife Karina have been married for 26 years and are blessed with two daughters and a grandchild.
In 2012, José founded a Bible Institute in Bogotá, Colombia, where over 200 individuals were trained for ministry within four years. Many of these graduates are now serving in pastoral and missionary roles. Additionally, José leads the Spanish Bible Teaching Ministry “De Regreso a la Biblia,” and hosts a YouTube channel with over 85,000 subscribers.
José not only brings to STS years of church planting experience, but he is also an expert in cross–cultural ministry. These historical experiences joined with Jose’s practical wisdom make him a valuable resource in STS’s practical theology and global ministries departments.
