Paul Kimbal

Paul Kimbal — Class of 2028
Married to Ashley Kimbal;
Five children: Warren, Addisyn, David, Rosaleigh, Mary
Where and how did you grow up?
I grew up in Rincon, Georgia just outside of Savannah. I am the youngest of five siblings; we had a lot of fun playing in the woods, swimming at the beach, and going to church. Before coming to Shepherds, my wife Ashley and I were raising our family at Countryside Baptist Church in Guyton, Georgia.
What life circumstances or situations did God use to create in you a desire for pastoral ministry?
I have a burden for people who go to church and do not receive solid, biblical, bold teaching. I see the world today and there are not enough men boldly and accurately teaching God’s Word. Many Christians have allowed their views on God and His Word to be affected by the culture, compromising on biblical truths. Many pastors are stepping away from the ministry, seminaries have a decline in enrollment, and churches are regularly closing their doors. God put a desire within me to teach His Word and care for His people. The Lord has blessed Ashley and I with being part of a wonderful church family at Countryside Baptist Church and now at The Shepherd’s Church in Cary, North Carolina. We want to be a small part of providing a community with a God honoring, Bible teaching church like Shepherds and Countryside.
How do you anticipate seminary helping you specifically to prepare for ministry?
I want to follow 2 Timothy 2:15, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” I want to accurately handle God’s Word. The most powerful, impactful preaching that I have heard has come from men who know the original languages and have been taught by other men of God. I know God can use a person who has no education or formal training, but I also know teaching the Word is a great responsibility, with eternal consequences. I want to learn the original languages, how to exposit the Scriptures, and how to counsel church members in need. I believe studying at Shepherds Theological Seminary will give me the tools and resources I will need to start and continue a lifetime of shepherding God’s people at a local church.
What kind of ministry, people group, or geographical area are you passionate about or planning to be involved in after graduating and why?
I believe God has called me to be an under shepherd of The Great Shepherd. I am not sure what He has planned for our family, but I do know that we want to serve Him and obey His will. I am excited to see what doors our Lord opens up over the next several years!
