STS 2022 Alumni Award

Shepherds has the privilege of presenting an alumni award each year that commemorate different STS graduates who are living out their theology and representing Christ in their families, churches, and communities. A description of the award, along with a brief bio of the 2022 recipient, is outlined below.

Servant Leader Award
The Servant Leader Award is annually presented to an alumnus who exemplifies the ideals of a servant leader, sacrificially giving of both time and effort to invest God’s Word in the lives of others and to shepherd others toward a closer walk with Christ. This year’s alum is Dr. Andrew Smith.

Andrew is Associate Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity, and serves as the Director of the Center for Research of Biblical Manuscripts and Inscriptions ( He earned his BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, two MA degrees (Biblical Literature and Biblical Languages) from Shepherds Theological Seminary, and a PhD in New Testament and Christian Origins from the University of Edinburgh. He has taught at Shepherds since 2011.

Andrew serves as Project Supervisor of the Greek Paul Project for the Museum of the Bible Scholars Initiative and is currently editing the Editio Critica Maior volumes of the Pastoral Epistles for the Institut für neutestamentliche Textforschung (INTF). He also serves as Assistant Editor for the Society of Biblical Literature’s Text-Critical Studies series.

Andrew is married to Valerie, who works as a manager and biostatistician for a contract research organization.
