Adjunct Professor of Theology

 

Born in rural Indiana as the last of three children, Eric was raised in a Christian home and received Christ at the early age of eight. He was very active in his youth group, high school athletics, music, and was the editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper.

In college in Ohio, the Lord led Eric to pursue a preaching and teaching ministry, and he subsequently began serving as a pastor while he completed his Master of Divinity degree with honors. He was ordained in 1996 and is now currently ordained in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). After completing a season of ministry in a rural congregation in Illinois, he went on to complete his PhD in Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School under Dr. Wayne Grudem and Dr. Kevin J. Vanhoozer.

In the academic setting, he has taught seminary level courses in Kazakhstan, Japan, and Guatemala and currently teaches at the collegiate level in Florida. His present role is that of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Bible and Theology at Trinity College of Florida where he also serves as Director of the Honors Program. Eric is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and served as a Fellow in the Center for Pastor Theologians for ten years.

Having served in various roles of pastoral ministry for over twenty years, Eric has a passion for the local church and is interested in preaching, teaching, counseling, pastoral care, writing, discipleship, and grief ministry. He is gifted in speaking and has written four books, the most prominent of which is entitled The Most Misused Verses in the Bible by Bethany House Publishers with over 40,000 copies sold. He serves as a consultant to churches in matters of church discipline, which was the subject matter of his doctoral dissertation and first publication.

Eric is married to his wife Jennifer and has two sons, Joshua and Andrew. He is interested in the outdoor life (biking, gardening, golfing) and cooking. They live in Trinity, Florida.
